Fortune released the list of Global 500 companies in 2021 and it displayed a new transition in the world with China reaching a new record of 135 (excluding Taiwan) exceeding the number of companies in the list than the United States (121).
Ten years ago there were just 43 companies, twenty years ago there were just 8 companies in the list but a bunch of fast-growing private Chinese companies is rapidly working their way up the ranks.

Walmart claimed the top spot on the Fortune Global 500 for the eighth successive year, and for the sixteenth time since 1995.
Fortune Global 500 companies generated $31.7 trillion this year in revenues that is 4.8% less than the previous year that accounts for first decline since the half decade and equal to more than one-third of the world’s GDP.
There are 23 female CEOs on the Fortune Global 500, up from 12 in 2019.
Apple (Ranked No. 6) collected $57,411 million in profits placing it at the top of the Fortune Global 500’s most profitable company in 2021
