Toyota has announced that it will be providing up to 20 of its specially designed “Tokyo 2020 version” e-Palette electric vehicles for transportation of athletes during the Olympics and Paralympics next year.
The SAE Level 4-capable autonomous vehicles will travel through the athletes’ village at a comfortable speed of 12 miles per hour (19 kilometers per hour) following a designated path, all the vehicles will be able to navigate through all area on its own but a safety attendant will be present in each vehicle if anything goes wrong.
The company says that it consulted with the athletes to make changes to the e-Palette as per their needs. It can carry up to four passengers in wheelchairs at a single time, and it includes large doors and an electric ramp to provide easy and quick boarding.

The company has made its interior as per the “Tokyo 2020 version” contrast to help individuals with color blindness. The newly designed “Tokyo 2020 version” e-Palette will be revealed and exhibited at the 2019 Tokyo Motor Show to be held in Japan.

Toyota has also unveiled its tiny robots that will accompany athletes and volunteers in the throwing events like the javelin throw and shot puts.
