India’s top leading telecom service provider Reliance Jio has finally rolled out the calling over Wi-Fi features for all its consumers in India and the service is expected to reach all over India by the next week. Reliance Jio users will now be able to make and receive voice and video calls while connected to Wi-Fi Internet network.
The service announcement comes a week after Airtel rolled out the same feature in select cities — such as Mumbai, Kolkata, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu in the country, both of the companies are offering the service at free-of-cost for all its companies.
What is Wi-Fi Calling?
Wi-Fi calling is a well-known feature that allows users to lock onto their wireless internet connection to make phone calls. The calls made using the Wi-Fi network can provide much better quality than those that rely on traditional telecom infrastructure. In the United States T-Mobile, Verizon, and AT&T offer this feature in late 2015 and early 2016.
Reliance Jio supports more than 150 smartphone models including all high-end Android smartphones and all iPhone models. Jio’s Wi-Fi calling functionality works on any Wi-Fi network as confirmed by the company. However, Airtel Wi-Fi calling feature currently works on a few smartphones and requires its users to be connected over Airtel broadband service.
