Social Media giant Facebook has officially released its dedicated Gaming app on the Play Store today. The app was earlier announced over the weekend in a New York Times story.
Facebook Gaming is focused on watching and hosting games while the app can also be used to play some casual games with your friends. It includes a ‘Go Live’ feature by tapping the floating camera icon available on the bottom right of the screen to quickly start streaming.
On opening the app, it takes you to the ‘Discover’ tab that gives you highlights of your favorite games as well as the content that is currently trending on the app. Similar to the main Facebook app you can react and make comments on most of the videos, images and GIFs on the platform.
It also includes chat option that allows users to talk with other people watching the same stream.
Currently, it does not include any ads; and the monetization is limited to viewer “stars” similar to Twitch’s “bits” users can buy to use in chat and make cheers for your favorite streamer.
Currently, the app is only available on the Play Store since the app has not received approval from Apple to be published on iOS as reported by TechCrunch.
It was long-time expected from Facebook to join the Game streaming service since the company believes its the next big growth opportunity with the dominance of Twitch and YouTube which has a dedicated Gaming app.
