Chinese tech giant ZTE has finally unveiled the ZTE Axon 20 5G as the World’s smartphone with an under-display selfie camera in a virtual event held in China.
We have seen Xiaomi and Oppo showed off their under-display selfie camera prototypes but ZTE launched the first commercial smartphone with under-display selfie camera technology.
ZTE Axon 20 5G:
ZTE Axon 20 5G has a 6.92-inch FHD+ OLED screen with a 90Hz refresh rate and 240Hz touch response rate display. It features a 20.5:9 aspect ratio, 2460 x 1080 pixels resolution with a fully bezel-less screen, no notches, no punch-hole cutout, or even a pop-up selfie camera module.
The major feature of the device is the 32MP selfie camera hidden under the display that the company reveals that it used a mix of technologies using a special pixel matrix and a special display material with increased transmittance (ability to transmit light). It also uses a dual-control chip and a driver circuit to handle how the pixels over the camera module operate in the device.
ZTE Axon 20 5G comes in with the Snapdragon 765G chipset coupled with up to 8GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage. It also includes an under-display fingerprint sensor for security and dual-mode 5G (SA/ NSA) support.
It includes a rectangular quad-lens rear camera setup with a 64MP primary sensor, an 8MP ultra-wide-angle lens with 120-degree FOV, a 2MP macro lens and a 2MP depth sensor with up to 4K (@60fps) video recording and HDR support.
It includes a 4,220 mAh battery with 30W Quick Charge 4+ fast-charging support and comes in with Android 10-based MiFavor 10.5 OS running out-of-the-box.
ZTE Axon 20 5G starts ar 2,198 yuan (~Rs. 23,500) for the 6GB + 128GB base variant, the 8GB + 128GB variant is available for 2,498 yuan (~Rs. 26,600) and the 8GB + 256GB top variant is available for 2,798 yuan (~Rs. 29,500) in China.
It is available in four black, white, orange, and blue color options and will be on sale starting from September 10th in China.
The company has not made any announcements regarding its availability in other countries yet.
