Xiaomi has unveiled the Mi Mix Fold, the company’s first foldable smartphone at a launch event in China, the Mi Mix Fold comes in with innovative features that makes it a new but a tough competitor in the Foldable smartphone market.
Xiaomi Mi Mix Fold specifications
Xiaomi Mi Mix Fold has an 8.01-inch QHD+ (1440 pixels) OLED display on the inside with a 4:3 aspect ratio, HDR 10+, Dolby Vision and 900 nits of peak brightness support. The device offers a 6.52-inch AMOLED display on the outside with a 90Hz refresh rate screen, 27:9 aspect ratio, 840 x 2520 pixels resolution and supports HDR10+ & Dolby Vision.
It also offers a 20MP (f/2.0) selfie camera with HDR and 1080p video recording support.
Xiaomi Mi Mix Fold has a U-shaped hinge for the folding of the device that is 27% lighter than existing foldable smartphones and it was tested by the company for more than 1 million folds.
It is the first foldable smartphone by Xiaomi but the camera development of the device are major innovation of the device for the company as it comes in with Surge C1 image processing chip developed by Xiaomi that runs the 3A algorithms – Auto Focus, Auto Exposure and Auto White Balance – in a power efficient manner.
The company has also introduced the world’s first Liquid Lens technology in the telephoto camera that is made out of a flexible film filled with transparent liquid. It can change its shape, just like the lens in the human eye with the help of a precision motor and work in extreme temperature ranging from -40ºC to 60ºC (-40ºF to 140ºF).
The liquid lens technology to the telephoto lens allows it to adjust its optical magnification ratio from 3x to 30x, the lens also has a minimum focus distance of just 3 cm for macro shots.
The rectangular camera array on the back features a triple-lens camera setup that includes a 108MP ISOCELL HM2 primary sensor with PDAF and no OIS support, a 13MP ultra-wide-angle lens with 123-degree FOV and the 8MP telephoto lens with LED flash that offers support for 8K video recording.
Xiaomi Mi Mix Fold comes in powered with the Snapdragon 888 chipset with improved 5G connectivity that comes in coupled with 12GB/16GB of RAM and 256GB/512GB of UFS 3.1 internal storage with no expandable memory support.
It includes a new cooling system with a combination of a large vapor chamber, thermal gel and multiple layers of graphite sheets that combines to boasts 22,583 mm² of total heat dissipation area.
On connectivity, it includes 5G, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, NFC, and a USB-C 2.0 port. It comes in with Android 10 based MIUI 12 running out-of-the-box which includes multiple features like a dark theme and a number of work/life-focused features.
It features a 5,020 mAh battery (split in two 2,460 mAh battery) with 67W fast-charging and as per the company, it can be charged from 0-100 in just 37 minutes.
