WhatsApp introduced its new policy last month that is said to be impacting the privacy of its users on the platform, since then a large number of users left WhatsApp for new and secured alternatives of Instant Messengers thanks to which Telegram and Signal received a huge spike in the number of installs on their services adding millions of new users to its services.
Telegram earned its first-ever entry to the Most Downloaded Non-Game mobile app in January 2021 with more than 63 million installs, 3.8 times its downloads in January 2020 as reported by Sensor Tower. Telegram received about 24 percent installs from India and 10 percent installs from Indonesia.
TikTok ranked second with about 62 million installs out of which 17 percent installs were reported in China from Douyin and 10 percent in the United States.
In overall downloads, Signal, Facebook, and WhatsApp were placed at 3rd, 4th, and 5th place respectively.
