Volkswagen group has unveiled the “Type 20” concept vehicle that is the modernized version of the iconic Type 2 Microbus that was manufactured in 1962, moving forward with the rebranding of its Electronics Research Laboratory to Innovation and Engineering Center California (IECC).
Volkswagen Type 20 is a futuristic concept vehicle which features major new features including biometric security, a holographic display, a voice assistant, and an all-electric drivetrain.
Type 20 features a full BEV drivetrain, including a 10 kWh battery, 2,500-Watt onboard charger, and an electric motor that produces 120 horsepower and 173 pound-feet of torque. The battery seems very weak in comparison with current Electric vehicles like Tesla Model S which has a 100 kWh battery.
Type 20 includes a real-time facial recognition system integrated with the digital assistant to unlock the door with a 720p wide-angle camera integrated into the drivers-side second window.
Type 20 includes a voice assistant which can be accessed from inside and outside of the vehicle and it provides LED feedback to exterior commands via the headlights and iconic Volkswagen logo just like Amazon Echo.
The new concept vehicle also has a holographic infotainment system integrated into the dashboard which shows your current speed and acts as a sat-nav.
