The German Car Manufacturer Mercedes-Benz has revealed its first all-electric race car on the evening of 2019 Geneva Motor Show. The new race car called the EQ Silver Arrow 01 will be used in the Formula E racing starting at the end of this year.
Started in 2014, Formula E racing came in as an substitute to the Formula One and other racing in which petrol or diesel is used. The Formula E is growing and is currently in its fifth season with major automakers competing against each other such as Audi, BMW, Nissan, and Jaguar. Porsche will be joining the Formula E racing this year, Mercedes-Benz took over HWA which is already in the racing to start its Formula E career as a running team.
The new EQ Silver Arrow 01 isn’t just built by Mercedes-Benz from the scratch. Formula E assigned the French and Italian organization Spark and Dallara to build the chassis and Atieva built the 52kWh battery box using Sony cells, and it was integrated by McLaren. The all-electric car can generate up to 340 horsepower, it can go from 0 to 60 mph in 2.7 seconds, and the race car have a weight of nearly 2,000 pounds.
The Formula E allows the automakers to develop their own drivetrains, including the electric motor, gearbox, and inverter which allows the automakers to test the electric propulsion technology. Mercedes-Benz says that the current shown colors of the car could be different when it comes in the Formula E season. The paintjob shown in the motor show has a similar pattern as the company’s 2019 Formula One cars
