Montreal-based startup Taiga Motors which is known for creating electric snowmobiles has unveiled its first Jet Ski-styled watercraft called Ocra in an event held in Toronto on Tuesday night.
Taigo Motors’ Ocra generates 134kW of power (about 180 horsepower) with a top speed of 65 miles per hour (~105 kmph) using its 23kWh battery that can be charged on standard or level 2 (240V) outlets, or more quickly with a DC fast charger.
The company says that the DC fast charger can charge the vehicle from 0 to 80 percent in just 20 minutes and its battery can run for almost two hours after full charge.
It has a 7-inch waterproof display between the handlebars which is packed with some useful technologies like GPS maps, LTE, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth radios. It also provides information from water temperature sensors, cameras of the vehicle and a sonar unit included in the vehicle. It also has a companion smartphone app to get information in your devices.
The Ocra is made up of carbon fibre but its total weight is 580 pounds and nearly half of the weight (275 pounds) is of the battery alone. Those who wants to buy it will get the option to customize almost everything from the watercraft’s colors, to its finish, to the shade and texture of the deck mat in the vehicle.
The company has said it will be producing only 400 Standard Ocra priced at $24,000 from 2020 and 100 Founder Edition to be made too which will be available for $28,000.
