The iconic Bajaj Chetak makes a comeback to India in an all-new Electric Avatar after it was launched by Bajaj Auto under the company’s Urbanite EV-brand on Wednesday putting a rest to the rumors. Bajaj Chetak was discontinued by the company in the early 2000s due to less demand but it always remained as the most-loved scooter in India.

The all-new Chetak Electric has a retro-design with modern touches with geometric LED turn indicators on the front, the company says that its IP67 rating electric powertrain that contains a Li-ion battery with NCA cells and it includes an Intelligent Battery Management System (IBMS) that controls charging and discharging seamlessly.

It uses a 4,080 Watt IP67 motor that produces 16 Nm of torque with a 3kWh 48-volt lithium-ion battery with a battery life of 70,000 kilometers. It can be charged using any 5-ampere standard charging anywhere and will take up to 5 hours to charge from 0-100% and can be charged up to 25% in one hour (No fast charging option available). It uses a special technology called regenerative braking system that charges the battery every time the rider applies the brakes.

The company says that the Chetak Electric offers up to 95km in a single charge with the ‘Eco’ mode and 85km when the ‘Sport’ mode is switched on.

It will also feature reverse gear and on connectivity with an app, it will show charge status, remaining range, vehicle location and notify owner for multiple instances like un-authorized access.

Just like any other modern e-scooter, it has Horse Shoe LED headlamp, feather touch-activated electric switches, keyless operations and also multispoke alloy wheels.

Bajaj Chetak will be available in two variants named as Urbane and Premium starting at Rs. 1 lakh for Urbane and Rs. 1.15 lakh for the Premium range in six color options: Cyber White, Citrus Rush, Hazelnut, Brooklyn Black, Velutto Rosso, and Indigo Metallic.

It will be the company’s first two-wheeler to be sold only online means you can book the vehicle from the company’s website from inquiry to delivery will be done while you sit at home and the company will offer setting up the charging station at buyers home. Each vehicle will have 3 free services with up to 3 years or 50,000 kilometers warranty at all operational service centers.

Bajaj Chetak is already under production from September 25th at the company’s plant in Chakan, Pune and initially, it will be available at at thirteen pro-biking dealerships in Pune and Bengaluru before it expanded to other cities
