ByteDance-owned TikTok the short video sharing app tops as the most downloaded non-game app in September 2020 with more than 61.1 million installs that represented a 2 percent increase from September 2019 as reported by the analytics firm Sensor Tower.
The rise in the install numbers of TikTok reveals that the company is still able to earn trust from customers and gaining new users amid speculations of ban and restrictions in other countries including the US.
Brazil accounted for over 11 percent installs while the US counted for about 9 percent installs of TikTok in September 2020.
Zoom ranked second with about 55 million installs out of which 23 percent installs were reported in India and 16 percent in the United States. Zoom reported 21.4 times install in the month compared with September 2019.
In overall downloads, Facebook, WhatsApp and Google Meet were placed at 3rd, 4th, and 5th place respectively.
Pakistan Telecommunication Authority has announced to block TikTok claiming that the app failed to remove “immoral” and “indecent” content. TikTok had been installed 43 million times in Pakistan as reported by Sensor Tower.
Following the ban of TikTok in India, many TikTok alternatives have seen a significant rise in the number of installs in India. China-based SnackVideo has retained its seventh place after making it to the top 10 list last month with 28.8 million installs in July thanks to its position on Google Play Store (ranked at 4th place).
